Course Offerings: Gunnison

Kids
Ages: 5 and 6 year olds
Session 1: 9/1-10/08/09 Session 2: 10/20-12/3/09
Days: Tuesday and Thursday
Times: 4:15-5:00
Location: Webster Hall
Instructor: Andy Tyzzer
Cost: Tuition is $130 for twelve classes or $115.00 if enrolled and paid before the first day of the session.
Uniforms are $39.50.
The philosophical emphasis, depending on rank, is courage concentration, endurance, and honesty. Development of self-defense skills facilitates concentration, self-control, respect, and achievement. The fun and safe environment fosters confidence and leadership. Students also learn a proper warm-up and end of class stretching
Juniors
Fall session begins September 1. This is an ongoing course of study.
Days: Tuesday and Thursday
Times: 4:15-5:15
Location: Webster Hall
Instructor: Dillon Hall
Cost: Tuition is $115.00 per month. If student commits to one year of training, then tuition is $99.00 per month.
Philosophical emphasis is humility, control of power, speed control and tension and relaxation.
Students continue to develop confidence through real achievement. Self-discipline creates the opportunity for partner work with basic self-defense against a grab and free sparring. There is an emphasis on cultivation of character and a habit of excellence.
Prerequisites: 7 years old or graduation from the “Kids” class.
Material: Instructional Guides required for each belt color.
Adults
Fall session begins September 1 and is an on-going course of study.
Days and times: Tuesday 5:30-6:45
Thursday 5:30-6:45
Location: Webster Hall
Instructors: Andy Tyzzer and David Baumgarten
Cost: $115.00 per month. If student commits to one year of training, then tuition is $99.00 per month.
Uniforms are $39.50.
Prerequisites: 12 years and older.
Material: Instructional Guides required for each belt color.
Description: Study of the history, traditions, philosophy, discipline/respect, and technique of this traditional martial art. The purpose of this course is to develop mentally, emotionally, and physically to face life’s challenges and achieve goals. The class environment is active and supportive.
Gunnison Valley School
Ages: 14-18
Character Education Through Martial Arts Training
Dates: 01/06/09–5/21/09
Days and times: Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:00-3:30
Location: Webster Hall
Instructors: Andy Tyzzer and Susan Powers
Cost: No tuition cost to students. Funded by donations from students, their families, community members, and grants, including generous support from the Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley.
This unique program is offered as an elective. Registration is completed through the Gunnison Valley School.
